Plasma instabilities and particle acceleration in the solar terrestrial system

Coherent waveforms in the auroral region

In the auroral region precipitating electrons lead to strong beam instability. Coherent waveforms observed by the FAST satellite were reproduced by performing a numerical simlation of the beam instability and discussed the formation mechanism of the waveforms.

EMIC instability in a multi-ion species plasma

EMIC (ElectroMagnetic Ion Cyclotron) instability is known as the relaxation process of temperature anisotropy in a magnetized plasma. It was discussed how the waves driven by the temperature anisotropy of protons accelerate preferentially heavy ions.
