ISSS-6iMax-Planck-Institut) Travel Report......Guten Tag!

2001.9.3-9.8

Three graduate students participated in the ISSS-6 (The Sixth International School/Symposium for Space Plasma Simulations) held at the Max-Planck-Institut in Garching, Germany. Although you may find a lot of scenary pictures on this page, please be reminded that this doesn't necessarily imply that mice will play while a cat is away, or the students will play while the academic adviser is away. Simply, the photos taken outdoors turned out to be more beautiful than the conference shots (sushine effect, we guess).

We stayed in a hotel in Munich. From here it took more than 30 minutes to the meeting place by taking a train. Shown here are snapshots of the center of Munich, 'Marienplaz'.

We made a half-day excursion to a nearby castle by taking a boat. We could see a part of Alps, which is just a little more than an hour trip from the castle.

Together with the famous 'German Mama' (center). Mama asks "big or small ?" as she takes a beer order. There is no choice in between (reduction of selections is an easy way of making the life simple). Mama can carry five glasses of one-liter beer mug at the same time.

With Bertrand and his friends (sorry we forgot the names). from left....
Anu
can drink two glasses of 1 liter beer!
Yasu
can't live without sake (our leader in this travel)
Yuri
is a good freind of Mama
Maki
is an artist who loves Germany
Bertrand
is charming!

Our ambition of making a ropeway trip to the top of Germany, 'Zugspitze', was unfortunately prevented by the stormy weather at the summit (and thus we just took this photo and returned home).

A one-liter beer! Very heavy, but very satisfactory as well. (Another beer picture?? -- voice from the heaven)

It was a very meaningful trip full of new experiences, encounters with a different culture and different people, and (emphasis here) new research development.
