Acceleration of Charged Particles by Large Amplitude MHD Waves

By performing test particle simulations, we study velocity space diffusion of charged particles in a presence of large amplitude magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves. Three particular points being discussed are, (1) deviation of the measured diffusion coefficients from the values expected from the quasi-linear theory, as the normalized wave power exceeds unity, (2) the effect of the phase correlation among waves with different wave numbers, and (3) the dependence of the diffusion coefficients on whether or not the waves are addiabatically introduced to the simulation system.
