NLFE Nonlinear Fluid Engineering Laboratory

This laboratory is cooperative one Renewable Energy Integrated Utilization Section and Nonlinear Dynamics Section of Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University. Detailed information are available in the web pages of the sections.

We research and develop technolgies and devices aiming to increase and expand the utilization of renewable energies by cost reduction, increase in size and function, and diversify, etc., through multi-discplinary approaches as fluid, mechanical, control, electrical, wind engineerings, etc.

ACADEMIC STAFF

- Shigeo YOSHIDA (Prof)
- Yingyi LIU (Assistant Prof)

MEASURE RESEARCH THEME
- Large scale wind turbines, floating offshore wind turbines, airborne wind turbines.
- Diffuser-augmented wind turbine, multi-rotor system.
- Wind farm optimization.

NONLINEAR DYNAMICS SECTION (NLD)

We aim to clarify nonlinear dynamics phenomena in fluids by deriving model equations under universal laws, by finding their solutions theoretically or numerically, and by developing fundamental concepts of the phenomena.

ACADEMIC STAFF
- Makoto OKAMURA (Associate Prof)
- Hidekazu TSUJI (Assistant Prof)

MAJOR RESEARCH THEME
- Statistical characteristics of turbulence with a projection operator method.
- Nonlinear characteristics of three-dimensional steady progressive water waves, particularly of its limiting profile.
- Shallow water wave and internal wave in stratified fluid, particularly two-dimensional interaction of solitary waves.
